What is decoupage?
Decoupage is a gluing process that adheres any product such as tissue, fabric, photos, paper, etc. to a surface
such as glass, wood or tile.
What is Soft Maple Design decoupage plate?
A SMD decoupage plate is a clear glass plate that has
fabric glued on the underside by hand. the process involves 4 to 6 coats of commercial glue, depending on the fabric, that is hand
applied over a 4 day period. There is no heat used during the application process.
Can the plates be used for food?
Yes.
The decoupage process is done on the underside of the plat, and the surface is left in its original condition. Therefore, it
can be used as a regular plate.
How do I clean a decoupage plate?
The surface of the plate can be hand wiped or sprayed to clean.
Do not wet the plate back.
What happens if the back of the plate gets wet?
Water immersion can damage the fabric back. The
glue will turn milky white. If it's a small area, just smooth it down with your fingers and let air dry. It should re-adhere
on its own.
What happens if the fabric should pull away from the edge?
It is unlikely that this will happen, but in case it does,
call for a free replacement.
Why is the finished back not smooth?
The plate back is not sanded smooth, so when you pick up the
plate, you remember not to put it in water.
Will the plates scratch tables?
We have never had a customer report of that happening.

What are other

use my own fabric on a plate?

Can you put pictures on the plates?
Yes. Soft Maple Design offers a line of photo plates. A digital
image provided by the customer is scanned onto fabric and then framed with a companion solid to create a border. Call SMD at

Can you do a quantity of plates with my organization's logo on them?
Yes, with permission
from the patent holder. For special orders such as these, call us at (315) 376-3598.
What other products can you decoupage

SMD has done special orders for glass candle bases, coaster sets, paperweights, and wine bottle holders. If

Can you
decoupage on plastic plates?
SMD only uses high quality glass products. While it is possible to do the decoupage process
on plastic, the end result usually isn't satisfactory and not up to our standards.
How are the plates shipped?
Our products
are usually shipped via USPS. Your plate can be individually gift boxed, or we can bulk ship to your address.
